At the age of 21, Anton Tönz became a student of the Indian teacher Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, under whom he trained as a meditation teacher. In 1987, Anton Tönz miraculously came into contact with Master Shri Jambavat and became a student of his Vedic teachings.
In 1980, he founded the Nateschwara Academy with his wife Vijaya Rao. His work in the field of Indian dance sparked his love and interest in Indian classical music, so that from 1986 he became a student of Mridangam maestro Shri K.N. Krishnamurthy became and later learned classical South Indian Carnatic music at Chitravina under Shri N. Purushothaman. Under Prof. dr. Jaydev Jani he additionally enjoyed a private study in the Indian scholarly language Sanskrit.
Author and practitioner
Although spirituality has always been his main focus, Anton Tönz has remained a practitioner. In 1997, he published his first book “Spiritual Secrets – The Mysteries of Akshara Vidyâ“, which comprehensively sets forth his spiritual teachings and vision. “Bliss in Me” published in 2002, is based on the contents of the first book and poetically treated the meaning of daily meditation. His many years of working with his students inspired him in 2012, after almost four decades of teaching, to write down his personal experiences and spiritual experiences and make them accessible to the public in the form of the book “Footprints in Heaven“. At about the same time, his fourth book, “Yoganusasanam – Yoga Explained” emerged from Anton Tönz’s intensive exploration of yoga and meditation. The book does away with the usual clichés of yoga practiced in the West and explains the origins and true goals of the yoga that emerged from the mystery knowledge of the Veda. (Link to Publications)
