Shri Tyagarajas contribution to mankind:
The fabric of spiritual unity is reinforced from time to time by the presence and influence of poets, philosophers and saintly singers whose contributions have sustained this undivided trust. Shri Tyagaraja was one such saint whose music and spirituality provided a welcome alternative at a time when people were losing faith and connection to their tradition in a chaotic political and social situation. The music of Shri Tyagaraja was an important link that ensured the continuity of culture and tradition as well as the revival of faith. It is said that he composed more than 20,000 songs, of which about 700 have survived the time. Hundreds of his compositions are still sung and played today. They are not only musical masterpieces, but also full of spiritual depth and content. His compositions are mainly devotional and philosophical in nature.
