Carnatic Vocal & Mridangam

The Music School of the Nateschwara Academy is open from Monday to Thursday. The Music school offers courses in Carnatic music – vocal(singing), Mridangam, Gottuvadhyam and Nattuvangam. The classes can be customized based on individual learning preferences and also as a combination of different subjects. All offers can be attended as hobby courses or at the certificate level.  

Classical music tradition of South India: Consists of Raga (Mode) & Tala (Rhythm) is learned as singing music.

Percussion – Mridangam: is a Double-sided cylindrical drum is the Oldest & most important rhythm instrument of South India, taught in the style of Palghat Shri TS Mani Iyer.

The course consists of a vocal training in Carnatic music. To ensure proper pronunciation, the course starts with an Indian language course. At the beginning the participant learns didactic compositions (Alankâram, Svarajati, Gîtam). Different talas and ragas (rhythm cycles and tone modes) are trained. At an advanced level, the student then learns songs (Varnam, Padam, Kîrtanam) from the traditional repertoire.

target audience: The course is aimed at music lovers who enjoy working with their voices and who are interested in a musical style that is able to delight in melody, clear the mind and eliminate mental stress.

conditions: There are no special requirements.

course start :  The course is designed as a one-to-one lesson and can therefore be started at any time. The course times are set at the beginning of the course.

duration : Unlimited, at least 6 months

class days: Tuesday or Thursday, optionally also Monday or Wednesday

 The music school of the Nateschwara Academy offers mridangam classes. The course starts with exercises in which the individual strokes are trained. This is followed by traditional lessons in which the student learns various talas (rhythm cycles) and Indian rhythm language (Sollukattus). To ensure proper pronunciation, the course starts with an Indian language course.

course description: The Mridangam is a double-sided cylindrical drum and is one of the oldest & most important rhythm instrument of South Indian classical music.

target audience: This course is exciting for those who enjoy rhythm and are fascinated by the complexity of the Indian rhythm system.

conditions: There are no special requirements for this course. A good sense of rhythm and a flair for mathematics are an advantage.
