Understanding Bharata Natyam; An introduction (lecture demonstration) into the Art of Bharata Natyam.
Vijaya Rao has been requested by several Dance Lovers and now she wishes to continue and resume this series of meetings for the layman/woman/children to understand Bharata Natyam. Vijaya Rao possesses the knack to involve her public in her performance and initiate knowledge for this art. Her teacher Pathagudi S. Ramaswamy on his last visit in 1996 encouraged her never to give up and help the people to understand the art of Bharata Natyam as well as the music for dance, which have a predominant place in Indian culture.
What would be the value of this art, or what would be a dance performance of value, if the spectator doesn’t get the insight and meaning of the intricacy of this art.
Let us talk about a good Bharata Natyam performance: Here not only the dancer, but also the spectator is equally part of the transformation and esthetic experience. This is the essential component of the science of performing arts in India.
